Enlightenment is a window manager for X. It's design goal is to be as configurable as possible - in look AND in feel. Currently in the look department it pretty much has that done. You can design your own window borders, menus, and other elements of your screen to look any way you like. Enlightenments current design aim is to become a desktop shell. That means it will manage your application windows, being able to launch applications, and also manage your files.

nmap is a utility for port scanning large networks, although it works fine for single hosts. The guiding philosophy for the creation of nmap was TMTOWTDI (There's More Than One Way To Do It). This is the Perl slogan, but it is equally applicable to scanners. Sometimes you need speed, other times you may need stealth. In some cases, bypassing firewalls may be required. Not to mention the fact that you may want to scan different protocols (UDP, TCP, ICMP, etc.).

Ted is a text processor running under X Window on Unix/Linux systems. It was developed as a standard easy word processor, having the role of Wordpad on MS-Windows, but more powerful. Ted's function is to be able to edit rich text documents on Unix/Linux in a WYSIWYG way. It supports multiple fonts and can print to PostScript printers.

The Berkeley Internet Name Domain (BIND) implements an Internet name server for Unix operating systems. The BIND consists of a server (or `daemon') called `named' and a resolver library.
