У меня в арче полгодика назад звук в doom3 «из коробки» заработал, пульсы там не было совсем :)

Не похоже на то, чтобы он использовал ALSA.
Попробуйте modprobe snd-pcm-oss или aoss.

При включённом PA вместо aoss нужно использовать padsp

А в логи что пишет? Возможно, padsp (libpulsedsp.so) где-то придётся достать 32-битный, чтобы его можно было LD_PRELOAD'нуть для 32-битного бинарника.

Либо ставьте 32-битные библиотеки, либо собирайте 64-битный iodoom3/dhewm3.
