Ктонить знает из-за чего это может происходить? в логах ничего подозрительного. Единственное что происходило на сервере, это скачка бэкапов по нфс.

Скорее всего необходимо грузить другой драйвер. Я собирал из исходных текстов и подгружал отдельно. Всё работало.

серверу несколько лет, стоит дебиан etch
uptime - 14:39:51 up 321 days

раньше все ок было, другие серваки в том же свитче сеть не теряли.

попробуй релоаднуть драйвер, проверить кабель, часто дело в патчкорде, на свиче в логе что-нить пишется?
