Т.е. все точно выставлено, звук из колонок идет, поначалу писалось, а теперь - хрен.
Интересно.

Есть тупой вопрос:
В faq, как я понимаю, почему-то ошибка (только сейчас увидел) - после каждой строчки должен стоять слэш - \
Стоит?

Можно попробовать не писать через альсу, а тупо указать /dev/dsp

Попробуй тупо забрать звук с помощью sox.
Если не получится, значит дело не в mencoder'е.

Как никогда смешьно , столбик PCM был замучен :) Только вот такая вещь - менкодер на mp3lame постоянно матерится , что его компиляли без оного , как его скомпилять с оным - по крайней мере я там такой опции не нашёл

У тебя lame должен стоять в системе с -devel'ами вместе, тогда он его сам подхватит.
