[debian][bash] Текст, появляющийся при логине

motd обновляется при каждой загрузке системы, так что редактировать нужно /etc/motd.tail.
см. /etc/init.d/bootlogs

а как поставить в мотд исполняемую команду, например: cowsay -r tux hello? куда ее можно поставитЬ?

Обязательно motd? ~/.bashrc не устраивает?

рекомендую apt-get install fortunes и прикрутить туда вот это - http://lorquotes.ru/fortunes.php

Все сделал при помощи дотбашэрси и не маялся.
