В Quake3 под рутом FPS в 3 раза больше чем под обычным пользователем - почему?

И чего? Нам угадывать твой xorg.conf и карту?

В xorg.conf на DRI правильные права выставлены?

Попробуй раскоментировать вот эту строчку:

Load "fbdevhw" - зачем тебе fb в иксах?

Также проверь читаемость всех иксовых папок для юзера.

Вот это, как минимум, лишние вещи. Ибо type1 поддерживается давно модулем freetype, а fbdev тебе зачем с nvidia я вообще не понимаю.

Можно как нибуть glxinfo под рутом запустить и сравнить с пользовательским?

А мож у тебя в самой кваке конфиги для рута и юзера разные?
