Gentoo. Проблема с установкой и настройкой печати под Epson Stylus color 1160 принтер

Джента обновлена по самое нехочу.
Стоят:
foomatic
foomatic-db
ghostscript-esp
gimp-print
cups
Принтак ставился, как через web интерфейс cups, так и командой:
foomatic-configure -s cups -p Epson-Stylus_Color_1160 -c file:/dev/usb/lp0 -n Epson1160 -d gimp-print

Качество печати настраивалось через web фейс. Юзер занесен в группу lp
печать проверялась и через root'а
Проблема:
Принтак эмитирует бурную деятельность, но листы выходят белые. вообще, без каких-либо признаков, что была печать.
белые листы.
принтак проверен на работу в оффтопике. печатает нормально там.
файл /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

Group lp #юзверь туда добавлен
Port localhost:631

Раньше этот же принтер с cups, даже более старых верий, работал отлично натаких ОС, как: SuSE, Slackware и Mandriva.

В чем может быть дело.

Сношу /etc/cups и переустанавливаю cups

делаю тестовую страницу прямо с localhost:631
принтер молчит

чистка конфигов не помогает. переустановка cups, gimp-print, foomatic*, ghostscrip не помогает.
занесение cups и gimp-print в package.keywords и обновление (удаление и затем, установка) не помогает.
