попробуй удалить ~/.Xauthority*, не уверен, но может быть поможет..

kdelibs какой версии стоит? если 4.1.2-r1 -- откатись на 4.1.2. и все кдешные пакеты которые 4.1.2-r1 откати до 4.1.2 на всякий случай. мне -- помогло.

пробовал запускать и через kdm (т.е. логинюсь с выбором кед), но и пробовал залогиниться в сэйфмоде а потом через startkde.

а последовать моему совету не пробовал?
