"не судьба" ;) а если серьезно - lsusb что показывает ? в ядро поддержку usb mass storage и scsi disk включил ? флешку смонтировал ?

FAQ читал, устройсво видно когда ручками modprobe выполняешь

lsusb вот что выдал:

А вот такой дурацкий вопрос --- hotplug случайно не отключен? без него так и придется каждый раз modprobe говорить, когда новое устройство на ходу вставляется.
