Может тогда скажешь, почему иногда pdf открывается с помощью pdftotext а иногда показывает мусор? Вот только сегодня слепил .pdf (1.2-1.4) из .tex (dvipdf или dvips+ps2pdf[12,13,14]) и не показывает =( Хотя все смотрелки - gv, xpdf, acroread отображают нормально. Документ английский.

Взял rpm. Отображение, поиск и копирование русского текста в другие приложения работает без проблем.

Type 3 font - это не вполне полноценный шрифт, а растеризованные картинки с глифов (поэтому в некоторых смотрелках такие документы выглядят хреново - stipple очень хорошо виден). Type 3 font и организован по другому, чем обычный Type1/TTF шрифт (где каждый символ имеет свое уникальное имя). Type3 шрифт - это просто массив картинок и каждый глиф идентифицируется своим индексом в массиве.
Если pdftotext обрабатывает pdf с нормальным (outlined) шрифтом ему нужно преобразовать имена символов в индекс соответсвующего символа в системной кодировке (на locale он, впрочем, плюет и использует какой-нибудь из своих файлов кодировок) и результат более-менее предсказуем. С type3 шрифтом ему ничего не остается как просто выдать наружу индекс глифа.

Как видно, шрифты-то embedded, но они какие-то CID Type 0C.
И xpdf не желает их верно отображать.

Меня в xpdf практически все устраивает. Но есть у него одна очень неприятная фича, которая, надеюсь, будет исправлена. Это - масштабирование. В акробате я могу взять в окно любой фрагмент и мгновенно получить увеличенное изображение. Xpdf же пересчитывает всю страницу. И чем больше zoom, тем медленнее он это делает. В зависимости от документа, увеличение , скажем в четыре раза может занять значительное время. Увеличение в xpdf - сплошная боль.

А вот то, что он сделан на Motif, это не так плохо. Пока что Motif, как промышленный стандарт де-факто еще никто не отменял. gtk2 только замедлит работу в xpdf (что можно пронаблюдать в gpdf).

У меня не загружаются EFS.api Annots.api SOAP.api, а так вроде работает. Эти api они для чего, может кто скажет?

реальные реалисты ставят и xpdf и пачку адобов начиная с 3го и семейку kpdf/kghostview/gpdf и еще бог знает чего. равно как и win2k + acrobat 6 для страховки ;) и даже в таком зоопарке иногда находится pdf, который не может нормально понять ни одна из смотрелок..

А колесо так и не работает. Тьфу...

Как здоровой! Теперь у линухоидов будет перед глазами пример, как надо делать программы. Adobe Reader 6 под Windows XP запускался 15 сек, Adobe Reader 7 запускается всего за 4 сек.! Некисло оптимизированная программа

Из всего множества плюшек меня здорово заинтересовала SaveAsRTF, но вот как ее использовать? Искал -- не нашел, чтоб им хорошо было...

Во-вторых, писать под GTK2 и сделать так, чтоб колесо не работало, а панель инструментов не раскрашивалась под системную тему -- извратиться нехило надо...

А что мешает рядом с архивом давать прямую ссылку на распаковщик 7zip? Тем более что он весит ~100кб. Для распаковки 40Мб стянуть дополнительно 100кб непроблема

OK, agree, I was wrong about embedded fonts. These bastards (adobe and friends) don't bother about compatibility of various versions of pdf standards so users of various pdf-viewrs have to face problems. In this case xpdf-3.0 performs as well (or as bad) as acroread-4.0.

Во всяком случае первое впечатление у меня самое положительное. Немного раздражает, конечно, что колесо не работает, но это, думаю, к релизу исправят.

Загружается в лёт, даже быстрее, чем 5.0.9. Открытый документ выглядит очень хорошо. Русский поиск работает.

Так что, похоже, что будет замечательный продукт.

Я тоже не нашёл никаких проявлений. Похоже, он у них пока не готов. Также огорчил результат "Save as Text" - текст он в результате выдал, но процесс acroread продолжать жрать 100% процессорного времени, пока я его не убил.

В общем, пока весьма сыро, но если до ума доведут - будет неплохой продукт.

А вы бы, господа, по поводу колеса багрепорт у них зафайлили бы. А то ведь действительно -- позор.

Кстати, переход с Мотифа на ГТК -- позор не меньший.
