The KDE on Windows team is pleased to announce the release of Windows packages for the KDE Software Compilation 4.7.0.
Although still not considered stable and suitable for production work, this release brings to the table a lot of new improvements worth trying:
- all the goodness brought by KDE SC 4.7;
- printing support in okular thanks to Ralf Habacker
- a (test) version of the kdepim package thanks to Andre Heinecke and Andreas Holzammer
- support for native 64 bit binaries: mingw-w64, the 64 bit flavor of gcc provided by the mingw-w64 project
- support for debug packages - this was part of last years Google Summer of Code project and should help getting better feedback for crashes on Windows; thanks go to Ilie Halip again
Special thanks go to the developers from mingw-w64 this time, because without their work, this release simply wouldn't contain 64 bit binaries and Patrick von Reth who worked on the 64 bit support on the KDE side, and who just made this release happen.
Users can test this release by using the KDEWin Installer to try out all the software available. Included in this release are kdebase (both the applications and the workspace), kdeedu, kdegames, kdegraphics, kdemultimedia, kdenetwork, kdesdk, kdetoys, kdeutils, and several stuff from extragear like amarok, digikam and kipi-plugins, kmymoney, konversation, kmid, kile and quassel. Be aware that these could kill your kitten(s), but chances are that you might find yourself quite comfortable in using some of these applications.
