Richard,
My name is Oleg, I'm from linux user group in Novosibirsk, Russia.
Within a few days in a row people ask us, what's our opinion on what
RMS doing, whether he is celebrating the New Year or not, and how
exactly. The most popular suggestion is that you drink vodka with your students from the FSF :-)
Enough of this!
Can you clarify this burning question?
From our side: most people celebrate the New Year with family, at the same time speaking at the conference (linux-org-ru) and jabber.

Are you using the GNU/Linux operating system? I think so, because
Linux is a kernel, not a complete system. You can't use Linux by itself.
If you are using GNU/Linux, would you please say so?
For instance, you could say
> My name is Oleg, I'm from GNU/Linux user group in Novosibirsk, Russia.
See http://www.gnu.org/gnu/gnu-linux-faq.html for more explanation.

I don't celebrate the new year -- it is just a date on a calendar.
I never drink vodka or any other strong drink, because they all taste
like alcohol and I hate that taste. Also, I do not like what alcohol
does to people, and I don't want that to happen to me.
tl;dr: RMS обиделся, что я забыл про GNU, и он не любит водку, потому что она невкусная и делает с людьми нехорошее. И он не отмечает Новый Год.
