Compatibility; not having to wory about various C++ breakage;
the fact that 2.95.2 still doesn't compile the kernel right in
some places.

gcc 2.95.2 has several compilation problems, breaks compatibility with all
other Linux distributions at this point and because it is a fast moving
target it is a support nightmare. We'll not ship it prematurely. Period.

А чем egcs не устраивает ???

Это ве коенчно не может не радовать, но когда же релиза ждать?

gcc 2.95

в debian potato с лета есть gcc 2.95. И я компилил им ядра начиная с 2.2.11. Работает.
