В Firefox 3.5.2 устранены следующие проблемы:

• Несколько уязвимостей в системе безопасности.

• Изображения с цветовыми профилями ICC теперь отображаются корректно на всех мониторах.

Они зае...ели. Разработали плагинную систему, что ли, чтобы не всё качать. Архив с исходниками под 40МБ уже.

Лис умеет обновляться, скачивая лишь те файлы, которые нужны ему для перехода на новую версию. Покопайся в настройках.

Для Windows это так.
Для Linux — не знаю.
Для FreeBSD нужен новый порт и перекомпиляция исходников.

Для генту переименовываешь ебилд (или ждешь, новый в портежах), он качает дельту (!) исходников (десятки-сотни кб, а не 40 мб), и собирает. Красота...

"Нормальные" это какие? У которых Eclipse 3.4 ещё нет в репозиториях?
А может это латентные виндовс-юзеры, у которых Винда в дуалбуте с Линуксом стоит, чтобы "если что не так быстренько загрузиться в теплое и мягкое"? :))

Потому что в нём есть всё авторское ("что автор хотел сказать"), а не "огрызок" после дебиановского обкарнания.

Прикинь реально обновления из репов на фф обычно приходят значительно меньше.

15 Мб, все включено.
это у вас какой то неправильный пакет, у Мозиллы 8 Мб кажется бинарный tar.gz

Что я и делаю периодически:
% portinstall -p www/firefox35 — сборка пакета и установка браузера;
% portinstall -p www/firefox3-i18n — сборка пакета и установка русификации;
% portinstall -p graphics/gnash — сборка пакета и установка flash-плагина Gnash;
% portinstall -p www/xpi-imglikeopera — сборка пакета и установка плагина ImgLikeOpera.

Когда всё установлено, то обновляю (с одновременной сборкой бинарных пакетов — ключик "-p"):
% portupgrade -ap

Стандартный. Системно-совместимый.

Может внутри пакета файлы *.jar и ресурсы пожаты более агрессивным методом сжатия, ты не задавалась таким вопросом?

Какие "отдельные пакеты"? Это как "отдельный", "нужный единицам" пакет, к примеру, java6-fonts для отображения и обработки ввода на русском языке в Debian Sun Java, да?

Вот и получается, что Java "не работает" или "работает у единиц". Получите — распишитесь.

Это называется ничем необоснованная кастрация авторского продукта. А Mozilla, если захочет, может подать в суд за диверсию и разделение изначально целостного авторского продукта на составляющие, доступные отдельно.
